EAAA hands 48,000 Nakfa, 21 medals and books to Eritrean National
Athletics Federation

Essayas Fessahaye (EAAA Representative in Asmara) , Feb 16, 2005

Eritrean American Athletics Association (EAAA) officer Mr. Kiflay
Habte handed 48,000 Nakfa, 21 medals, books and Runner's Magazines to
Eritrean National Athletics Federation (ENAF) in the presence of
vice-sports commissioner Brigadier General Tekie Russom (Belata), ENAF
President Mr. Beyene Russom and other ENAF officers.

Olympian athletes Yonas Kifle, Samson Kiflemariam and Nebiat
Habtemariam will receive 5,000 Nakfa each while the Olympic hero, now
in Spain, will have 10,000 Nakfa share from the donation made by EAAA.
Coach Abebe Zerihun, who led these athletes in Athens Olympics will
also be given 5,000 Nakfa as a reward. ENAF will handle the remaining
18,000 Nakfa for its championship contests as money prize for winners.

The books and magazines, which were bought by EAAA, will also be put
in the Eritrean Runners' Library. The Eritrean Runners Library, which
is first of its kind, was opened by EAAA some time back here in Asmara
and lot of efforts are being made in advancing it. As ENAF finds
larger space, computer and TV set facilities will be brought so that
all the promising Eritrean runners can have a closer look at global
athletics activities through cassettes and DVDs.
The money donated together with the EAAA medals will help ENAF to
awarding podium contenders, the nearest big event being the Eritrean
Cross Country championship the paves the way to the World Cross
Country Championships.

Eritrean Cross Country Championship will take place on Saturday,
February 19, 2005. All great national athletes including Olympic
medallist Zerisenay Tadesse will participate in the event to make the
competition tough.
It is to be recalled that Eritrea stood third in the World Cross
Country Championship held in Paris last year. Zerisenay Tadesse and
Yonas Kifle were among the top ten.
The money was funded by concerned Eritreans of DC, John Behnken and
EAAA fund-raise (Car wash, party and EAAA account)

EAAA thanks Mr. John Behnken and the concerned Eritreans of DC metro area.
