President receives Eritrean athletes and stresses more efforts to develop sports

President Isaias Afewerki today received the national athletics team. The meeting took place at the Sports Commission. The President commended the team for their performance and described Zeresenay Tadesse's triumph as a major achievement.

He further noted that sport activities have to make continued progress on the basis of conducive ground and that the support of the people and the Government in this long-term process is imperative.
President Isaias underlined that the victories so far scored are not to be taken lightly considering the short duration of sports activities in the country since liberation. He stressed that professionalism, training and participation should develop and that sport activities should expand in all the administrative regions.

President Isaias, as an incentive to the efforts the athletes made and the victories they scored, awarded Zeresenay Tadesse 100,000 nakfa and 25,000 nakfa each to the other athletes.

Present on the occasion were the Sports Commissioner, Maj. Gen. Romodan Awlyay and members of the Sports commission.

In a related event, EAAA president, Yohannes Debesai, make a phone call to Maj. Gen Romodan Awlyay and his vice Br. Gen. Tekie Russom two days ago. They both appreciate a collective effort of Eritreans to advance Eritrean sports. EAAA will play a role even at commissioner level in the process of advancing Eritrean athletics. Zerisenay Tadesse in phone conversation from Asmara appreciated the support from Eritreans at home and abroad and he extended his greetings and appreciation for EAAA. EAAA congratulated him via the phone.
