Simon Bairu Wins Big Ten Championship in Minnesota !

Registers personal record time !

 

The Wisconsin men’s cross country team, Led by simon bairu, won its seventh consecutive Big Ten Championship On Sunday in record-breaking fashion.

 "Senior Simon Bairu captured his third straight individual title as the men scored just 16 points and posted an 85-point margin of victory, both Big Ten records.

The No. 2-ranked Wisconsin men swept the first four spots, led by Bairu who clocked in at 23:31.73, personal record, on the 8K course. Bairu’s title marks the seventh time in the last eight seasons that a Wisconsin runner has placed first in the conference. He is the first UW runner to win the Big Ten individual title three consecutive years and joins Tim Hacker as the only three-time champs for UW." UW website.

 Simon, preparing to defend his national title next month, is in "good shape" as he reported last night on the way back to Wisconsin.

 Nef Araia finished 3rd in the Pacific-10 title

"Neftalem Araia, a Stanford sophomore, led a trio of Cardinal runners to finish in the Top 10. Araia finished third over the 8,000 meter course in a time of 24:19. Arizona's Robert Cheseret won the Pac-10 title for a second straight year in a time of 23:57 while Obed Mutanya, also of Arizona, finished second 24:13. Jonathan Pierce finished seventh 24:26 while Brett Gotcher captured tenth (24:37). Stanford won the team title with 46 points, 32 points better than runnerup Arizona.

Stanford will host the NCAA West Regional on Nov. 12. " Stanford.

 The Ghebray brothers, Gilait and Yosef, in the win !

 

"The California men's cross country team finished a program-best third place with 107 points Saturday at the 2005 Pac-10 Championships at Dell Urich Golf Course. 

Senior Giliat Ghebray finished in eighth place (23:57), which was the best Pac-10 result for a Golden Bear male since Bolota Asmerom took seventh in 1999. Freshman Mark Matusak grabbed 17th in 24:56, senior Kevin Davis was 18th (24:58)." Golden Bears site.

Freshman Yosef Ghebray crossed the finish line in 20th  with a time of 25:01 helping his team from the set go of his fresh man year.

The Ghebray Brothers, Giliat and Yosef, seem to be determined to lead the Golden Bear to victory !
