Nef, Giliat and Yosief in the West Regional Cross
Country championships at Stanford University
The Stanford
University's Cardinal
Cross country team PACED by Neftalem Araia finished to second place and
will have an automatic qualification for the USA Nationals. Neftalem
finished 8th over all for the over 10K Cross country course with a time of
30:23. The cardinals following Nef were: Britt at 11th place, Jonathan at
14th, 23rd was Garrett and 24th John. Neftalem said his performance was
average and he is looking for a bigger victory at the nationals.
Watching, Arianna Lambrie leading the women's team of
Stanford to first place victory with a 19 second winning margin was
amazing. Arianna help Stanford win the women's title for the West regional
Cross Country.
Senior at UC Berkeley Giliat Ghebray finished
in 15th place on the 10K course in a time of 30:38.2, posting the Bears'
top individual result at regionals since 2000. Ghebray has an excellent
chance of earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships but won't find
out until Monday, Nov. 14. This year's National championships are staged
Monday, Nov. 21 in Terre Haute,
Indiana. Ghebray takes the
front page of UC Berkeley today.
Yosief Ghebray also finished 54th in the same
competition from over 160 runners. Yosief was ranked 4th from his team with
his brother on the first place of the BEARS.
Ghebray family was there on the field to encourage Yosef
and Giliat. We met them on the way out. Berhane Ghebray, the father of the
two great young Eritrean runners, was so proud by the performance of his
sons.
This year, EAAA will have possibly three runners at the
USA Nationals. Simon Bairu, Nef Araia and most likely also Giliat Ghebray.
Congratulations to Nef, Giliat and Yosief !
